Apparently a fix is on the way,  but it is strange it hasn’t been addressed by now. 
Teething problems for the “Superphone”. Also no app for Audible and Slingplayer. Doesn’t seem to have a built in Office Suite.
I was that close to grabbing one of these, but maybe will hold back for a while.
HTC Pro2 has been great so far.  If it ain’t broke…. well the HD2 has a nice CPU built into it…

The official specs for the Nexus One is finally out.  Following the footsteps of Iphone, purchasing the phone is via online on the Google Website and the phone needs to go through an activation procedure once you receive the phone.  Hong Kong is one of the few places that the Google Phone will be made available as of this moment. Other places include US (of course) , the UK and Singapore.

No real surprises about the specifications as they were already leaked out well before the official announcement,  but some highlights include the 800×480 WVGA AMOLED display, 5MP AF camera with LED flash, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Qualcomm QSD 8250 1 GHz,3.5mm audio jackand the now almost obligatory digital compass.

Some interesting features that come with the phone includes live wallpaper, turn by turn voice map navigation and voice dictation.

Apparently they can cost as much as HK$50 just to read a text message? I’ve never heard of such a scam, has anyone been on the wrong end of one of these?

I’ve always just known it was free to receive SMS, free to send SMS to users of the same mobile operator, and $0.50 for each SMS that is a different provider.

Telecom fee clarity urged

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Rita Lau has urged telecommunications service providers to clearly state the fees for their services, so consumers will not be misled into believing some are free.

Mrs Lau told reporters today it is unacceptable for some telecom firms to send out an unreasonable number of short messages or use dishonest means to make mobile phone users pay for certain services.

Perhaps the Nexus One is a good excuse to switch to a new Phone OS.  From what I have heard and read about this Google Phone, it sounds like a snappy little beast.  Apparently it will come with a 1Ghz CPU and a really sharp LCD screen. 

This unit comes minus a keyboard, which I have had in my last 3 phones.  Having said that I have been using the virtual keyboard on my Pro2 with some success.  I am a pretty snappy screen tapper now.  I hear that the resistive screen on the Pro2 is not as good as a capacitative screen so it must mean that my typing should fly on an Android OS.  Having said that I didn’t find the screen keyboard on my daughter’s Ipod Touch any better.

Another reason to consider changing OS is that Google have recently been coming out with interesting mobiles apps and are bringing them out for their Android OS first.

One is the [url=http://]Turn by Turn voice navigation for their google maps[/url]. Voice navigation is very useful.  It allows you to concentrate on your driving and not have to continuously look at your PDA to see where you are. I used to have this on Mapking and used it all the time. I have stopped using Mapking now as I was annoyed that I had to buy the software every time I changed my phone.

Another more recent application is Google Goggles. In a nutshell this is Google’s experiment in web searching using pictures.  Am not sure how good it is,  but would love to try it.  Apparently they have been successful in using it to identify people’s faces,  but have not implemented it at this time.
